Happy Birthday Mad about Design! Today the blog Mad about Design is two years old. Thanks to all people who follow and support this blog.
This year was very important for Mad about Design who participated to many events such Operae, Paratissima, Expo Milano 2015 and I Saloni.
  Also during the year was created the column  "Inspired Mind" where we meet and interview an artist or a designer and we discover the major artcrafts.
  Mad about Design is proud to have visitors from all over the world: Italy, USA, France, Germany, Russia, Canada, UK, Thailand, Japan ...
 In 2016, there will be many news and I can anticipate that Mad about Design will have new sections and participate at new events whom will share images and impressions with you.
  Finally, I take this opportunity to thank all the followers of Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.

Mad about Design at Operae in Torino

Hello design lovers! This weekend Turin is the site of  Operae, the festival of independent and self-design, an exhibition  comes now with great success in its sixth edition.
For three days, from 6 to 8 November, in Turin Exhibition, you can meet new Italian and international talents of design, discover products and collections and participate in meetings and workshops.
In Operae, creativity, art and the future are the main protagonists everywhere.

Ciao design lovers! Questo weekend Torino è la sede di Operae, il festival del design indipendente e autoprodotto, una evento ormai giunto con grande successo alla sua sesta edizione. Quest'anno Operae ha luogo in contemporanea ad Artissima e Paratissima, altre due manifestazioni legate all'arte organizzate nel capoluogo piemontese.

Suitcases ready for boarding at the airport or the new drawer designed by Jean Paul Gaultier for Roche Bobois? This sophisticated and original drawer is Malles, a piece of furniture that twists with the furniture that twists the conventions and reinterprets an object to create another with a completely different use. Malles is a numbered piece of furniture and a limited serie of 250 items.

Equipped with 3 doors, 3 drawers and a flap element with mirror, Malles is upholstered in full grain leather with a natural finish and stitching by saddler. Hot Spot: Rosa quarzo il colore dell'anno 2016 per Pantone

Hello design lovers! Mad about Design today is pleased to reveal the color that Pantone has elected as tonality of the year 2016: Rose Quartz.
  So soon we should say goodbye to the color of the year 2015 of Marsala where you can find the post here, and welcome Rose Quartz.
Pantone is the highest state regulations in the field of color and each year choose the tonalities that influence furniture, clothes and make up.
The Rose Quartz is an elegant and delicate nuance which, as the name suggests, is inspired by the mineral.
A very refined color that conveys serenity and joy but unfortunately that has always been linked to the houses of our grandmothers or the bedrooms of girls.

Hello design lover! The stars of today are the three elements of the Cork Family by Vitra, designed by the esigner Jasper Morrison.
  These three giants cork stoppers don't serve of course to close wine bottles but are three original and very versatile pieces of furniture, it is possible to use it as a stool or as a table.
The essential lines match perfectly with the cork, which has the advantages to be strong, lightweight and extremely soft at touch
The Cork Family is made of natural cork turned coming from the waste industry processing of corks, a beautiful family, original and even green!

 Questi tre tappi giganti prodotti interamente in sughero non servono ovviamente per chiudere le bottiglie di vino ma sono tre originali complementi di arredo molto versatili, è infatti possibile usarli sia come sgabello che come tavolino.

Mad about Design at Salone del Mobile

 

Sunday, Mad about Design was at the 54th edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan, one of the most important furniture fairs in Italy.

Showing the importance of the event, this year the visitors were 310,840 of which 69% from abroad.The number of exhibitors has risen to 2,106 + 700 designers at the Salone Satellite and items exhibited are bedrooms, dining rooms, living rooms,furniture and home accessories divided into three types of style: classic, modern design.The Salone proposals  include best brands furnishing, only some name are: Missoni Home, Kartell, Vitra, Driade, Opionionciatti, Slamp, Artemis, Tomasella Group, Bonaldo, Desigual Home, Slide ...Simultaneously, this year also took place Euroluce, the International Lighting Exhibition, now in its 28th edition with 475 exhibitors and also Workplace3.0, now in its17th edition with 127 exhibitors.In addition, the event is accompanied by a full calendar of cultural events, not only at the fair but also in the city of Milan, the famous Fuori Salone, involving different districts from Brera to Navigli.Below are some pictures I took during the event that I hope you do get fully into the atmosphere of the Salone !!

 

Mad about Design domenica è stata alla 54a edizione del Salone del Mobile di Milano, una delle più importanti fiere dell'arredamento in Italia. A testimoniare la rilevanza dell'evento, quest'anno i visitatori sono stati 310.840 di cui il 69% provenienti dall'estero.

Il numero degli espositori ha raggiunto quota 2.106 + 700 designer del SaloneSatellite e i prodotti esposti comprendevano camere da letto, sale da pranzo, soggiorni, 

mobili da giardino e complementi d'arredo suddivisi in tre tipologie stilistiche: classico, moderno e design.

Mad about Design at Expocasa

 

 

Hello design lovers! Yesterday Mad about Design visited Expocasa, the exhibition dedicated to the furniture which took place in Turin and now it has joined its 52nd edition .

This edition has reached the number of 45,000 visitors to witness the notoriety of the event and the importance of exhibitors .

In fact, in the three pavilions of Lingotto Fiere , where the event was dedicated, you could meet numerous international design brands , including Calligaris, Roche Bobois, Nature Design, Fatboy, Borbonese, Gufram, Opinion Ciatti...

Also interesting are two events in parallel, Expocasa Green and toBEeco respectively dedicated to garden design and sustainable design.

Happy birthday Coconut Chair!

 

Hi my dear design lovers! Today post is a tribute to Coconut Chair created by the designer George Nelson for Vitra in the year 1955, which this year celebrate 60 years old.

 The designer George Nelson compared the armchair with a coconut cut into eight parts, though he reversed the colours: the outer shell of the Coconut Chair is white, while the one-piece cushion is covered with high-quality leather or fabric in a variety of colours.

Coconut Chair has a simple and ironic shape, typical of 50es design and its spacious shape creates an inviting and comfortable armchair that wrap the sitter.

Victoria and Albert

Hello design lovers! The protagonist of today are two, the tables of the Victoria and Albert collection, designed by Ron Arad for Moroso.
The choice of the name Victoria and Albert is an homage to the famous museum in London, where in June 2000 he held an exhibition of works by Ron Arad.
The collection was born from the Victoria and Albert propose an innovative design and comfortable.
These tables made in colored polyethylene with a round line, are suitable to be placed both inside and outside as resistant to heat and light, for a touch of color in your living room, terrace or garden.

Stripes

Stripes is the mirror protagonist of today's post. This wall mirror from designer Paolo Cattelan is composed of strips of mirrored glass combined.
At first glance, Stripes seems to be broken and this feature makes it an original mirror of great personality.
This unusual mirror from different shapes and sizes does not go unnoticed and decorates in a refined environment where it is placed.

Today we play Sciangai

Hello my dear design lovers! Hands up who has never played sciangai as a child! But Sciangai is also the name of one of the most famous Italian design hanger at the international level. Designed in 1973 for Zanotta by designers De Pas, D'Urbino and Lomazzi, this collapsible clothes hanger inspired by the ancient Chinese game. Each timber element of Shanghai is at the upper end support for hats, bags or capispalla. Available in beech, natural or painted black or natural oak, wenge stained, dyed gray or white.

Bonjour Mademoiselle

Hello my dear design lovers! Today's post is dedicated to Mademoiselle, one of the most famous chairs by Kartell. Conceived by designer Philippe Starck, this chair is the result of two different plastic materials. Mademoiselle has in fact a transparent polycarbonate frame and a seat made ​​of soft material to provide maximum comfort.
  The lines of classical inspiration of the legs, slightly divergent and rigorous square section, emphasize the top, colorful and bright.
  The creative and imaginative soul of Mademoiselle is expressed mainly in the rich variety of patterns expected for the fabric coverings for a session always fun, stylish and of great aesthetic value.

After the 51th edition of Expocasa in Turin

 

Hello my dear design lovers! As I told you yesterday, today's post is dedicated to the 51th edition of Expocasa in Turin.

Expocasa, with 45,000 visitors and 200 exhibitors, proved to be an important event for the furnishing and design.
  Plastic, glass and steel are still the largest proposed materials and as for the colors, the tonalities we find more, are the neutral ones, like beige, taupe, gray and white.

A piece of design history

  
The chair protagonist of today's post is an important piece in the history of international design: Panton Chair, designed by the Danish designer Verner Panton, is the result of a long research development in 1960 and in 1967 began series production for Vitra. Panton Chair has won numerous awards and one of the first models is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. 
Today the Panton Chair is considered a classic of modern furniture design and its success is due to the modernity of the material and its particular and elegant shape, designed to follow the anatomy of the body. Panton Chair is injection molded from a single piece of polypropylene and is suitable for all environments, from the living room to the kitchen, from the office to outdoors.

La sedia protagonista del post di oggi rappresenta un pezzo importante nella storia del design internazionale: Panton Chair, ideata dal designer danese Verner Panton, è il risultato di una lunga ricerca messa a punto nel 1960 e nel 1967 inizia la produzione in serie per Vitra.

Unusual intersection

 

My dear design lovers today we are again in the presence of a Good Design Award, Big Table by Belgian designer Alain Gilles for Bonaldo has in fact won the award in 2009.
Big Table is a large functional table with a strong personality thanks to the extremely original design from the unusual intersection and the inclination of the legs.
 The Big Table legs are laser cut steel and matt painted each with a different width that highlights the different shades.
Different color combinations are available: white , anthracite gray, multicolored (red coral , orange, green and purple) and a combination of brown ( pale pink, taupe, brown and amaranth ).
The rectangular top is also available in different materials: white matt lacquered , walnut, solid American walnut , brushed oak anthracite, brushed natural oak, black or white frosted glass, or white or anthracite gray ceramic.
Big Table is the proof that even with traditional materials such as steel, wood and glass it's possible to produce a table definitely out of the ordinary, thanks to the creative mind of a great designer.

Be my Valentine

As every year, the day dedicated to lovers has arrived, tomorrow is Valentine's Day, and I took the opportunity to show you Love this romantic pouf by the designer Joel Escalona for Opiniociatti.
This lovely heart-shaped pouf fills with joy the environment where it is placed and certainly will not go unnoticed by your guests. 
Love is in polyurethane foam covered in cotton with base in polished stainless steel and is available in three different lengths and two colors, red and black.
For tomorrow, have you already chosen a gift for the person you love? Have you booked the restaurant or  maybe have you prepared  a romantic dinner by candlelight in your home?

Circle of light

An irregular ellipse from which comes a seraphic light, this is the table lamp Anisha built by Studio Lievore Altherr Molina for Foscarini. 

The three designers of Barcelona have created this lamp with a distinctive identity as a fluid and enveloping frame who can almost hypnotize the person who looks at it. 

Anisha outlines an empty space and filling it with a directed downward soft led light. Made of injection molded ABS, Anisha is available in two colors, white, to blend in with the surrounding space, and red, for a strong and recognizable presence. Due to its minimal lines, it perfectly suits to the different rooms of your home or your office, whom will always give a touch of sophistication both turned on or off.

Tick tock Tiuku

Hello my dear design lovers! Today I show you Tiuku, confirmation that the pendulum clock can also be modern and glamorous. Tiuku is an idea of the Finnish designer Ari Kanerva for Covo which has created a contemporary version of an ancient object by giving him a minimalist robe. This pendulum clock from the simple and essential lines is able with its touch of color to decorate any place: the living room, the bedroom or the office. Even the material, with which it has been realized, follows the idea of ​​modernity, in fact the wood of the classic pendulum clock is replaced from steel painted in red, orange, black and white.
